St Regis staycation: complimentary with American Express

At the time of writing, the American Express Platinum Charge card provides card holders with an annual complimentary stay at either St. Regis Singapore or the W Singapore Sentosa Cove (subject to change, please confirm with American Express for latest list of hotels).

Complimentary 2D1N stay at St. Regis Singapore or W Singapore Sentosa Cove: voucher for American Express Platinum Charge Card holders

With the Platinum Charge card, card holders also receive Elite hotel statuses in four major hotel rewards programmes: Gold in Hilton Honors, Gold in Marriott Bonvoy, Jade in Shangri-La, and Gold in Radisson Rewards.

Room Upgrade

The best part about having Elite hotel status is getting complimentary room upgrades, subject to availability.

For this  St Regis staycation, we planned a 3D2N stay in the Executive Deluxe room. The AMEX voucher covered the first night, and I paid for the second night.

At check-in, the staff informed us that they would offer an upgrade to the next room category tier, but only on the second night (due to avability). Thus, we spent the first night in the Executive Deluxe King, and the second in the Grand Deluxe King.

This blogpost features the *Grand Deluxe King* room.

Grand Deluxe King Room

First impression: this is a room of soft, plush fabrics.

The Pink / Blush wallpaper gives an added softness to the room. Plus, it’s my daughter’s favourite colour and she literally couldn’t stop staring at the wall lol.

Hello Bed

Behind the King sized bed is an array of cupboards. When shut it looks all clean and minimalist…

White cupboards matching the white bed

… but open it and wow, what a generous amount of space.

Not pictured: our luggage shoved inside

On the other side of the room lay a bright red corner couch and a workstation.

It feels really regal

Love the rich, red fabric of the curtains; its richness complementing an even redder couch.

Hints of luxury: Dark wooden desk area, Plush cushions

In these times of COVID-19, our St Regis staycation comes with hand sanitizer, masks, wipes, and a note of encouragement to stay safe.

Hand sanitizer, Wipes, Facemaks – More can be given upon request

Similar to the Executive Deluxe King, the room size of  52sqm/560sqft area is large by local standards. But what sets the Grand Deluxe King room apart is the Garden view.

(The Executive Deluxe King had a view of other buildings)

Not that we really needed to look at a sunny garden – I guess thie greenery may be great for foreigners hailing from cold countries? To Singaporeans or Malaysians, this view would not be considered THAT spectacular.

We were more impressed with the coffee and tea making area.

Beverages for Guests

The whole set up had quite a genius design: glasses on one side, snacks in the drawers, and a mini refrigerator below. All encased nicely in a circular case made of shiny dark wood.

Congratulatory chocolate cake and fruit

One of the things that stand out at our St Regis staycation: Butler Service. The rooms come with complimentary all day Coffee and Tea (and Hot Chocolate or Steamed milk, if you prefer). Simply dial for the Butler and make your desired order.

Left to Right: TWG Vanilla Bourbon Tea, Hot Chocolate, Cafe Latte. Each beverage is served with a chocolate cookie.

We absolutely loved this – my daughter went crazy on Hot Chocolate, and the Coffee Addict of a husband indulged in multiple rounds of Cappucino, Cafe Latte and Mocha,

Milk and Honey available upon request. And sometimes the drinks come with chocolate chip cookies instead.

Somehow… I could not really believe that this is a room upgrade. In some ways it felt like a bit of a downgrade from the Executive Deluxe King. Perhaps it’s just my personal preference in terms of room layout, or failure to appreciate the Garden View. It’s not that we disliked the room – we could definitely appreciate its beauty and quality of the furnishings. However, if you don’t really care to look at the Botanic Gardens it may be better to stick with the Executive Deluxe instead. This is especially true when you consider the bathroom.

Bathroom

A rich, rich bathroom, covered entirely in French marble.

Sneak peek

It was beautiful, and very, very grand.

By comparison however, the bathroom here definitely felt smaller than that of the Executive Deluxe. In the other room, the two sink areas were on opposite sides of the bathroom, thus giving the feel of having an extra piece of furniture.

A beautiful bathtub is always good

Here, however, the double sinks are literally right next to each other, which is a more space-saving move that covers less area overall.

Bathroom amenities are from Remede Spa, the in-house Spa at St. Regis Singapore. These were so refreshing – and the body wash and sample is a beautiful ocean blue.

Remede Spa amenities

I’ve always loved how St. Regis adds an extra touch of thoughtfulness to their presentations. Here, observe the side of the bottles – there’s a translucent strip – you can see how much liquid is left in each bottle!

Blue for shampoo and shower, White for hair conditioner and body lotion

On the other side is the  separate shower and toilet area. Totally decked in French Marble too, of course.

Breakfast for the St.Regis staycation

Breakfast is served at Brasserie Les Saveurs, the French restaurant located on the main floor of the hotel.

I do love this place. I have tried both the a la carte menu and epicurean set lunch, and they didn’t disappoint. I’ll admit, I had high expectations for this place.

Currently, the breakfast here are served as sets. Each guest is entitled to one set. Click on the images below to enlarge and view the menus.

We all ordered the Epicurean breakfast set.

Ta-dah: Breakfast is served

I seriously recommend this: the Epicurean Omelette.

Epicurean Omelette: Poached Boston Lobster, Tiger Prawns, Lobster Bisque Emulsion, Avruga Pearls, Green Salad, Cherry Tomatoes

To quote from my previous blog post, “this is easily the BEST omelette I’ve had in my life. The saltiness of caviar blends with the fresh crustaceans and the overall texture is smoothened out by the egg, and extra-flavoured with a lobster bisque or broth in the background – this was simply divine.”

After the wonderful egg dish, came our desserts – Brioche French Toast and Pancakes.

Desserts: Brioche French Toast, and Pancakes

Both were freshly made, not too sweet. Exactly the right kind of ending to a good breakfast.

Pancakes – Mixed Berry Compote, Whipped Cream

Brioche French Toast – Cinnamon Sugar, Roasted Banana Compote

I’ve given a more in-depth review of breakfast in my other post when we stayed at the Executive Deluxe room – check it out for more pictures of breakfasty foods 🙂

Remede Spa

The real highlight of our St Regis staycaion is the Remede Spa facilities.

Waiting area at the Spa’s entrance

There are separate entrances for male and female guests. Once inside, there are lockers available for use.

Remede Spa’s facilities are complimentary for in-house guests – so do take advantage if you’re staying there!

It truly is an urban sanctuary.

Warm bath, with a single stream falling from above. Let its waters land on the back or shoulder for massage-like sensations.

Scents of essential oils permeate this place. In the middle lies a warm heated pool. I went in and boy was it DIVINE. Had a long, relaxing dip and it truly felt like all my troubles were forgotten and floated away.

Warm Bath

If you love the scent of Lavendar, the steam room is not to be missed. Hot vapours carry the rich aroma of lavendar. Take a deep breadth, and the relaxants go straight inside…. making one sigh happily with an ‘AHHHH’ like there’s no tomorrow…

Steam room – multiple marbled compartments, there are seats inside each partitioned wall

This is really unique – heated marble seats! Marble tends to feel cold, but lying here is just pure warmth and comfort. Best place to rest after the steam room or warm bath – you know how getting out of steamy places sometimes causes light-headedness? The marble seats act as a kind of transition between the wet and warm areas VS the air temperature – reducing the overall light headed feelings.

Warm marble seats

Remede spa also has an outdoor area – namely, the foot reflexology path and a spa garden. The ground is pebbled here; while I personally am not into foot reflexology, the ambience of peace and zen will give joy to those more appreciative folks.

Aqua Reflexology Footpath and Spa Garden

Finished with the sauna, steam room, and various baths? Wash off in one of their shower rooms…

Hallway leading to shower area

… and finish off by lounging in the resting area, before returning to the real world.

Somehow, staring at the fishes swimming about feels really peaceful

Unfortunately, the facilities are adult-only so children under 18 are not allowed in. The husband and I loved the spa so much, we literally did a tag team and took turns to visit – one person to spa, and another to mind our daughter.

Gym and Pool

Of course, like any other five-star hotel, there is a gymnasium and swimming pool.

Gymnasium

Though, with such an awesome spa, why anyone would prefer to gym instead is really beyond me, lol.

In all seriousness, the gymnasium, while small, is well-equipped for the various gym needs. TechnoGym equipment is available, including treadmills and ellipticals, each integrated with individual TV sets and advanced cardiovascular monitors

The gym and swimming pool are both located on Level 2, right next to LaBrezza, the Italian dining establishment.

Swimming Pool

A note on the pool – it isn’t very large. With social distancing being practiced in this time of COVID-19, the pool can take only a very limited number of people, so registration or booking is highly recommended.

Overall thoughts of our St Regis staycation

I’ve always loved St. Regis Singapore for their top-notch customer service, attention to detail, child-friendliness – the overall experience has been consistently wonderful. I particularly want to mention the generousity of spirit in serving guests. It didn’t matter whether I was dining, staying, requesting for help etc – the staff always delivered professionally and with a smile. They were particularly kind to our child and made her feel welcomed too, e.g. by greeting her and asking her if she liked the stay.

Lobby Area

Of course, the hotel is beautiful everywhere. There are places with great service but poor aesthetics and vice-versa, but St. Regis has somehow managed to be BOTH aesthetically pleasing and guest-oriented.

Waiting area in the Lobby

I am additionally thankful that American Express gave us Platinum Charge Card users a one night complimentary voucher. Without it, I may never have experienced the joy of staying at the House of Astor.

Tip: If you don’t have / don’t want to apply for an American Express card, an alternative to get discounted room rates is through the Supper Club program – and I do have a deal for my readers so do check it out.
