Love Dining by American Express

As a holder of the Amex Platinum Charge Card, I am an absolute fan of Love Dining benefits by American Express. In addition to the huge dining discounts (up to 50% off for two adults), the dining establishments that participate have been mostly outstanding or phenomenal.

Some noteworthy places include: St. Regis Singapore, Fairmont Singapore, Swissotel the Stamford, and other distinguished dining venues.

Dining establishment changes: Love Dining updates

1) Charlem Thai exits Love Dining

Sadly, Charlem Thai at the Capitol Kempinski hotel has ceased operations. It will be undergoing a rebranding and thereafter will no longer be part of the Capitol Kempinski hotel. Thankfully, the other love dining outlets at Capitol Kempinski -15 Stamford by Alvin Leung, El theatro tapas (Spanish), La Scala Ristorante (Italian), Frieda (German), and Broadway American Diner are still in operation.

 2) TWG – Orchard outlets + one of the Marina Bay Sands outlets exit Love Dining

TWG Review: elegant cafe at Marina Bay Sands

TWG’s full name, TWG Tea Salon and Boutique, has outlets at Marina Bay Sands (x2), Swissotel the Stamford, Ion Orchard, and Takashimaya.

The latter two outlets at Takashimaya will cease love dining benefits.

At Marina Bay Sands, there is one outlet on the bay (near the MRT at B1), and another at the Tea Garden at B2 level (in the middle of the mall). At the time of writing,  according to the American Express website, the latter at the Tea Garden will no longer offer love dining benefits.

3) FYR – no benefits on Fridays

FYR (pronounced ‘Fire) is a modern grill restaurant located along Boon Tat Street.

Love Dining privileges will be suspended on Fridays but will continue to be available from Mondays to Thursdays and Saturdays (the restaurant is closed on Sundays).

Guide to Love Dining updates

Some time ago, I wrote two posts about the Love Dining benefits by American Express – the Love Dining Hotel Guide, and the Love Dining Restaurant Guide.

AMEX Love Dining benefits by American Express: Restaurant Guide

Love Dining benefits by American Express: Hotel Dining Guide

The information in the both the above Hotel and Restaurant guides have been updated to reflect the information in this post.

Nevertheless, despite these ‘downgrades’ to Love Dining benefits, i still consider it one of the best dining programmes out there. Personally I am not discouraged by changes such as these. The reason: in the past, partners have come and gone (for example – the case of dining establishments at Conrad Centennial Singapore – Conrad exited Love Dining, only to re-enter again at a better time). Despite any changes, the overall quality of the programme, the participating restaurants and the benefits are still (in my opinion) the most unrivalled in Singapore.

The Love Dining programme (Singapore) is a benefit that comes with selected American Express credit cards: The Platinum Card (also known as the Platinum Charge card), The Platinum Credit Credit card, and the Platinum Reserve card.
