Chanel Large Chevron Quilted Flap Bag
Sometimes, the Chanel fashion house releases a bag that resembles the classic flap, but isn’t technically considered a “classic” piece. This Chanel Large Chevron Quited Flap, released as part of the 2017 Spring-Summer collection, is one of those bags.
Mine is the large version in black.
Why I Love This Bag
I acquired this item during a trip to Japan, from the Chanel boutique in Shinsaibashi, in Osaka’s downtown area.
Since its purchase, this item has been my top two favourite bags (with the other being Chanel’s Coco Handle). Not just because it was significantly cheaper (by Chanel’s standards, anyway) than the classic flap.
(I also own a Chanel classic flap in pink, but that’s another story).
Here’s my reasons for lovin’ it.
1) The Single Flap: Lightweight
Chanel’s classic bags have a double-flap. While that adds to the character of the bag and has become a trademark of the classic range, the double flap does add on extra weight.
Classic Medium Flap: 25.5 x 16 x 7.5cm (10′ x 6.3′ x 3′)
Large Chevron Flap: 25.9 x 16 x 7.2cm (10.2’ x 6.3’ x 2.8’)
In the seasonal piece, no space allowance is dedicated for a second flap. Hence, despite the seasonal piece being less wide overall, the interior space is more than the classic flap.
Which leads to my next point:
2) What Fits in my Chanel Bag
Five words: the size is just right.
Inside the bag is one large open compartment, with no dividers. The design is simple and minimalist.
3) Black Chevron with Silver Hardware: 100% Versatile
It’s not only perfect for the days that you just want to go monochrome.
Actually, the bag is idiot proof – it goes pretty much with any colour combination. Plus, with four grommets, the chain can be adjusted to be either (i) a single long strap on the shoulder, or (ii) doubled up for carrying on either the shoulder or arm.
The versatility of this bag means that it transitions easily from day to night. On several occasions, I’ve brought this to work (assuming I don’t need to carry around a laptop that day), and used the same bag to head to a nice dinner after.
At any rate, the bag is also great for lounging about and relaxing after a good meal. In the hotel lobby, of course.
