I always remembered the  excellent seafood dinner buffet experience at Brasserie Les Saveurs my family had in late 2019. Since then, I have wanted to come and try their Epicurean lunch set. Finally an opportunity came when a friend offered to go lunching together – during my birthday month, too!

Having dined before at St.Regis multiple times, it’s truly one of my favourite places for high-end dining. Great ambience, greater food, and impeccable service – this place just ticks all the right boxes. It’s also an amazing choice as a hotel and for staycations – read here for my own family’s experience in staying at St. Regis Singapore.

Bonus: those with American Express Love Dining benefits can enjoy up to 50% discount with the Epicurean set lunch at Brasserie Les Saveurs. I particulary recommend the AMEX Platinum Charge Card – not just for this but a huge range of other benefits as well.

AMEX Platinum Charge Card: starting my journey

Brasserie Les Saveurs @ St. Regis

Upon arrival at St. Regis, my friend and I were greeted by the usual sight of fresh flowers in the hotel lobby.

And the familiar sight of comfortable sofas, in a backdrop of marble, chandeliers and high ceilings.

Entrance to Brasserie Les Saveurs, the French dining establishment on the main floor:

Menu

Brasserie Les Saveurs’ Epicurean set lunch menu, priced at $48.00++, consists of a choice of appetiser, main, and dessert.

Since I was here with one friend, the both of us could dine at 50% off under the AMEX love dining benefits. Sweet.

Alternatively, if one does not hold a qualifying American Express credit card, signing up as a St. Regis Supper Club Member may be an alternative. Supper club members at St. Regis can also enjoy 25% off.

Food

Complimentary bread basket and butter was served while we waited for our food to arrive.

Crusty on the outside but warm and soft on the inside, the bread was dangerously addictive – it’s so easy to fill up on bread here even before the dishes were served!

~ Appetizers

We were wowed just by the aesthetics alone.

I could not resist choosing an appetizer with raw fish:

Tartare De Saumon: Salmon Tartar, Avocado, Horseradish, Citrus

Salmon tartar: for sashimi lovers, this is more than just plain old chopped sashimi. The salmon, creamy and mildly fishy, balanced out the the acidity of citrus fruits and slight bitterness of endive herbs.

Super creamy fish texture

My friend, on the other hand, selected a Goat Cheese salad instead:

Salade De Chevre Chaud (vegetarian): Warm Goat’s Cheese Salad, Walnuts, Fresh Figs, Honey Mustard Dressing

This appetizer is 100% proof that salads aren’t necessarily boring. The sharp, soft, and warm goat cheese paired so well with crunchy toast. Figs – sweet and fresh, countered its saltiness. Add in walnuts – a perfect hint of nuttiness rounds up the flavour.

Okay, guess what –  this doesn’t happen often – I actually liked this salad more than the dish with salmon!

~ Mains

The appetizers certainly set our expectations really high for the upcoming mains. We were really excited when these were served.

Behold my choice of main dish… bread crumbs galore. LOL.

Cassoulet en Cocotte – Duck Confit, Pork Sausage, Pork Belly, Paimpol Beans, Bread Crumbs

Dig a little under the crusty bread crumbs – and all the meat and beans pop up. With duck, pork sausage, pork belly, and beans – this is one heck of a protein-rich dish. The variations in meat – all tender and juicy – was lovely and is sure to please carnivore lovers.

Hidden surprise

Personally, i felt that my dish had too many beans. After some digging – it became evident that the entire bottom and sides of the cocotte bowl – anywhere with space really – was filled with these white beans. After ingesting so much protein already, the beans, while flavourful, just became a tad too much.

My friend had a very different Main – a pasta variety:

Ravioli de Royan (vegetarian) – French Ravioli with Butter, Sauteed Mushrooms, Comte Cheese, Mixed Herbs

This Ravioli was both a hit and miss – the first few bites of warm pasta stuffed with mushrooms and cheese gave a real MmmmHmmm moment. And then… we literally could not eat anymore.

The ‘sauce’ is literally flavoured melted butter

Now, the sauce that drowned the bottom half of the Ravioli is literally melted butter. Flavoured and aromatic of course – but more than a few bits and suddenly it felt too oily, too rich. Granted – maybe we weren’t used to this style of pasta. However I can’t imagine anyone easily polishing off the buttery sauce in one go. Literally a heart attack on a plate.

We abandoned this dish and decided to just focus on dessert.

~ Dessert

The best way to finish a meal is with sweet endings, and we’re so glad to save some space for dessert.

Creme Brulee: Vanilla Creme Brulee, Caramelized Sugar

Creme Brulee – an idiot-proof dessert in some ways. It tasted like pretty standard Creme Brulee with a slight hint of vanilla. If you love custard just go for this.

Paris Brest: Choux Pastry, Praline Cream, Roasted Almonds, Caramel Sauce

Choux Pastry – the kind used in cream puffs, presents here in an almost doughnut-like cream sandwich. This is the more unique desserts of the two. Praline and almond ingredients bring out an extra nuttiness. Feels like an elevated cream puff.

My favourite dessert of the day however – was actually the surprise complimentary birthday cake. Thick smooth chocolate ganache and very little flour, it’s the ultimate sinful cake one can have.

Tip for diners – when dining at any of St. Regis’ dining establishments, if there is a birthday or anniversary celebration, let the staff know and they may prepare something special.

Final Words, AMEX discount

Overall, for Brasserie Les Saveurs’ Epicurean lunch set, we loved the appetizers and desserts. The mains weren’t bad – they were good, but they just don’t carry the ‘wow’ factor of the other dishes.

As an holder of the American Express Platinum Reserve Card and/or the AMEX Platinum Charge card, under the Love Dining Benefits, I received the following dining discounts:
