SKIRT review
Earlier this year, the husband and I celebrated my birthday at SKIRT. This restaurant is touted as one of the best places for grilled steak in Singapore, and it’s been on our wish list for so very long.
Serenely Romantic
“SKIRT is a trailblazing grill house where prime cuts of meat and fresh, sustainably sourced seafood are beautifully prepared on the centerpiece parrilla grill.”

American Express Love Dining
My readers know this – I am a huge fan of the American Express Love Dining programme. It gives diners a 50% discount when two adults dine in.
A few American Express credit cards provide Love Dining privileges. These are: the Platinum Credit Card, the Platinum Reserve Credit Card, and the Platinum Charge card. My personal favourite is the Platinum Charge card (I’ve written about the list of benefits here), thanks to a whole host of other perks that it offers.
For a high-end restaurant like SKIRT, getting 50% off the food bill is super worth it. I cannot recommed Love Dining enough – I’ve used it so many times that I’ve literally lost count.

Starters
Behold, a one-bite serving of Beef with Tacos.
We did not actually order this – it simply came as a welcome starter from SKIRT.
Beef with Tacos
70°C Octopus 40.
Here, the octopus, grilled to perfection, is rolled in chorizo crumbs and served atop a pea salad and caluliflower purée.
A serving staff separated the dish into two portions, and presented to the husband and I half a portion each.
Chargrilled just the right amount
Add on a bit of indulugence by digging into the pull-apart foccacia bread.
Focaccia Bread, Butter, and Salt
Looks thick but is VERY fluffy and soft inside

Steaks
For this SKIRT review – I’ll say this upfront: these are the BEST steaks that the husband and I ever had.
He ordered the New Zealand Grass-fed Wagyu – Butcher’s Cut Steak.
New Zealand Grass-fed Wagyu – Buther’s Cut Steak
The New Zealand steak was flavourful, rich, and juicy. Yet there is a very slight tension – giving diners the joy of chewing into a good steak.
Medium Rare
Bearnaise sauce (left) and Red Wine Jus (right)
Not all Japanese Wagyu are created equal; A5 is the highest grade that a cut of Wagyu can receive. So, when ‘A5’ and ‘Wagyu’ appearead in the same line, I knew that THAT was the one.
Japanese Tochigi A5 Wagyu
The finest cut of Ribeye Steak
Cut it open and juices run clear. The fatty marbled meat is sooo rich, so full of juices – it’s the ultimate form of tenderness that any steak could have.
Not surprisingly, some may even find this a bit too rich. Remedy it with red wine jus – it does wonders – adds flavour and sophistication while taking away some of the greasy feeling. It also goes super well with the bread; when the bread absorbs all the juicy goodness, it becomes something else on its own.

Side Dishes
All meat and no vegetables makes Happy High Life less happy.
Okay I just made that one up, but seriously, the Broccolini here is so SO good.

Olive Oil Mashed Potatoes
The mashed potatoes are fluffy, buttery… and we felt super heavy after having them. These are probably the densest potatoes in the world. Its drowned in olive oil, which just smoothens it out further – which also means that it is so much harder to stop.
Tip: don’t eat ALL the mashed potatoes. Or, if you’re with someone, consider sharing it. It is VERY heavy.
Of tasty vegetables and addictive mashed potato
Complimentary Birthday Cake
Here’s a pro-tip: when you’re dining in at a nice restaurant, or doing a staycation, ALWAYS inform the staff if you’re celebrating a special event – you’ll never know how they will surprise you.
In our case, they offered us a complimentary birthday cake.
Blackcurrant Mousse cake
Such a lovely way to end the night. Definitely one of the very memorable meals we’ve had.
Overall thoughts: SKIRT review
This SKIRT review is one of those 10/10 places. Great food, amazing ambience – and the location in the Sentosa Cove area – it’s definitely something special.
For a start Sentosa is much less crowded than most places on mainland Singapore. The feel of exclusiveness and seclusion is unrivalled.
Post-Dinner stroll
Plus – head around outside for a stroll after. The evenings here, with the dimly lit pathways by the water, is both calming and romantic.
There are few things that are worth nothing however.
1) The location can also be a pain if you are not driving. Getting a grab car in isn’t the problem, but coming OUT might be one. It’s located on the far far end of Sentosa island, where drivers seldom drop by and public transport isn’t very connective. There is a shuttle bus – but watch the time as the last bus leaves around 10pm (i think! It might have changed post-covid – check with W hotel if you need shuttle services).
New Zealand Grass-fed Wagyu Butcher’s Cut Steak
2) My only real complaint about SKIRT: it opens only for dinner, from 6pm to 1130pm on Sundays till Thursdays, and till midnight on Fridays and Sundays. There isn’t the possibility of having lunch here. A real pity – folks like me with small children would prefer taking leave and getting out for a date in the middle of the day.
That Japanese A5 Wagyu… and a bit of Olive Oil mashed potatoes
Otherwise, if you can overcome the location and timing, I highly recommend SKIRT as the best place for Steak in Singapore. I say this as someone who’s had GOOD steak before – at Lawry’s the Prime rib, and also at Sen of Japan (A5 Wagyu to boot). While those places are already amazing, and one can argue that they are different in nature, SKIRT just serves grilled prime meat at another level altogether.
10/10 would totally come back again.
