Amex Love Dining: Restaurant Guide
Previously, I have written about the *Hotel Dining* Guide version for the American Express Love Dining Programme. Since then, a few people have suggested that a *Restaurant* guide be written as well – so here it is!
As I have highlighted before in the Hotel Dining guide – The Amex Love Dining programme (Singapore) is a benefit that comes with the following American Express credit cards: The Platinum Card (also known as the Platinum Charge card), The Platinum Credit Credit card, and the Platinum Reserve card.

(The American Express Centurion card also qualifies. However, that card, as far as I know, can be applied for by-invitation only, has an annual fee of SGD 7490 and is out of reach for most people.)
I personally own the Platinum Charge card and absolutely love it for all its benefits – read about it right here:
Benefits Explained
Card holders receive up to 50% discount at participating dining establishments. The discount varies depending on the number of people who are dining.
Image source: American Express love dining
* Note: the benefits for AMEX Love Dining in Restaurants (up to 20 pax) are slighty different than the benefits for AMEX Love Dining in Hotels (up to 10 pax only)
In Summary, the Benefits are as follows:
- 1 cardholder + 1 other (50% off)
- 1 cardholder + 2 others (33% or 35% off, depending on location)
- 1 cardholder + 3 others (25% off)
- 1 cardolder + 4-19 others (20% off)*
- 1 cardholder dines alone (15% off)
*Long-time owners of American Express may recall that in the past, the love dining benefits only accomodated up to 10 people per visit. However, in January 2020 – American Express amended the terms and conditions so that a party of up to 20 people can enjoy the benefits.
Do note that this allowance of up to 20 people only applies to Restaurants. For participating Hotels, the benefits still extends only to a maximum of 10 people.

General notes on Children’s Dining Policy
For À la Carte and Set Menu: Only children aged 7 and above are counted as 1 adult diner. Children aged between 1-6 years old are counted according to the communal dining concept:
2 children =1 adult headcount,
3-4 children =2 adult headcount.
Buffet: Children’s dining policy applies and varies across the different buffet restaurants. For each restaurant’s children’s dining policy, kindly contact the outlet for the most up-to-date information.
Blackout Dates for All Restaurants
- Eve of Public Holidays and Public Holidays
- Special Occasions: Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day
- Additional Blackout Dates for All Chinese Restaurants: Eve of Chinese New Year, and 15 Days of Chinese New Year
Participating Restaurants in the Love Dining Programme
American Express has divided their restaurant types into five broad categories: Asian, International, Western, Italian, and Contemporary. Listed here are the outlets and the general terms and conditions.
The Amex Love Dining benefits kick in as long as all adults make at least 1 qualifying order each. Usually qualifying items are from a-la-carte or regular buffet menus, and exclude set meals and promotional items.

Personal thoughts: Lovin’ AMEX Love Dining
Of course, there is no denying that dining with one other person yields the best discount of 50%. I have used the Love Dining benefits in both hotels and restaurants, and the experiences have been mostly positive.
To find out about my personal AMEX Love Dining experiences at various places, read here.
A tip if you’ve got young kids: children under certain ages (it varies depending on location – it could be between 3, 4, or 5 years old) are not considered as a ‘guest’. This is especially true for places with BUFFETS – there is always a fine print that kids under a certain age get to eat for free, a long as there is 1 accompanying parent.
This means that if my husband, child, and myself all go for a hotel buffet under the Love Dining programme – the adults get 50% off, and our kid eats free – so our bill is basically the cost of ONE ADULT – for all three of us to dine.
