Hermes Bearn Wallet: a birthday gift
Last Month (March), the husband presented me with the most wonderful birthday gift ever.
Hermes Orange Box. My heart skips a beat everytime I see one.
The Hermes Orange Box. Was it a surprise?
Actually, no – he discussed what I would like to have as a birthday gift, and we came to an agreement together. Unsurprising, yes, i know, but it was important to him that the gift was something that I’d 100% love.
And that is a romantic gesture in itself.
Hermes Bearn Wallet in Ostrich
The Hermes Bearn Wallet in Ostrich is a true beauty. The lovely blue colour here is Mykonos. The blue here truly brings out the pattern of Ostrich leather.
I have found my Holy Grail Wallet. Or Clutch.
Wallet vs Clutch
There are many reasons to love the wallet – but one of them is because, the wallet is large enough to double up as a CLUTCH.
Yes, it does fit a phone – I have a Samsung and it slides in perfectly fine. Can’t speak for the larger iphone models though.
Isn’t it too SMALL as a clutch though? Granted, I am only 154cm tall – so for my frame, a long wallet pretty much goes well as a clutch anyway. After all, I know plenty of folks who use the Kelly Wallet from Hermes as a clutch, so why not the Long Bearn as well?
It really is something different and stands out – the Ostrich leather is always a show stopper, and I’ve gotten tons of compliments on it.
Layout of the Hermes Bearn Wallet
It is essentially a bi-fold wallet, secured with a little belt held in by the ‘H’ closure tab.
Love the belt – it really gives the wallet that extra bit of elegance.
To open the wallet, I simply slide the belt out of the ‘H’ closure tab.

Inside, there’s a zipped change purse compartment on the left side. On the right side there’s five credit card slots, two pockets, and a thick gusset area.
The two side pockets and gusset area is more obvious from this close up view:
Traditionally, that area was meant for a chequebook, but I find that it fits my phone in there (Samsung), and it’s so useful just for that alone.
There’s also another pocket behind the zipped compartment – so more room for receipts or even cards!
Generally, it is VERY EASY to overstuff this wallet.
However, despite filling it to the brim, you really cannot tell from the front view that it’s full.
Yup, that’s a fully stuffed Hermes Bearn Wallet
Only the side gives a very SLIGHT hint of a fully stuffed wallet.
Is it worth it?
“Worth” is something highly subjective and depends on people! To me it IS worth it, because
- I use this wallet daily (thus bringing down the cost per wear)
- It holds all my essentials
- It fits in many of the bags I use regularly (e.g. the Chanel Chevron flap, the Hermes Picotin 22, in all my tote bags and even some of the smaller bags such as a Mulberry Mini Alexa)
- It’s from Hermes – and I love the quality and craftsmanship of Hermes. I already own the Garden Party 36, a beautiful Hermes Kelly 28 in Gold, and a Birkin 30 (read the story of how I got my Birkin HERE!) – so having the Hermes Bearn Wallet just feels like it complements the rest of the collection.
Note: If i do have to use a mini bag (e.g. Chanel mini coco handle, YSL toy loulou, the Hermes Constance 18, or Mini Lady Dior) that does not hold the long Hermes Bearn Wallet, I easily take out the cards from the five card slots, and just transfer them to a card holder. Some folks find this a hassle, but it’s not a problem for me.
