American Express Travel Website
With a qualifying American Express credit card, one gets exclusive access to the Amex Travel website. It is similar to Expedia- a one stop travel portal whereby card holders can log into their account to make flight, hotel, and car rental bookings, and purchase travel bundles.
The card I own is the Amex Platinum Charge Card; I do love logging into the account occasionally to source for deals on the Amex Travel website.
American Express Travel (Image source: https://travel.americanexpress.com.sg/)
- The original hotel website (in this case, as Grand Mercure is under Accor – I check the Accor Live Limitless App),
- The rate on another 3rd party website such as Expedia or Agoda, and
- The Amex Travel website – sometimes there are deals exclusively for American Express cardholders.
This round, it turned out that the Amex Travel website had the best deal – I literally managed to snag the room for SGD80.75 per night for two nights, and with GST the total rate came to SGD190.
I regret not doing a comparison screenshot back then between expedia and the Accor app. Sorry folks! But given that the usual rate for this hotel is about SGD 200 per night, whatever promotion I saw on the Amex Travel website became literally a no-brainer.
Anyway, a key reason for the low prices was back then – Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy was coming out of being a COVID-19 SHN (stay home notice) hotel, and starting to accept guests who were coming for local staycations. I was incredibly lucky – it was a case of right place and right time, on the right booking site.

When we arrived at the hotel, the lobby was literally empty, despite it being time for check-in.

Superior King Room: Birthday Staycation
This stay at the Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy was to celebrate our child’s birthday and spend some quality time as a family. The four of us excitedly entered the room and were greeted with this sight.

Facilities: Pool, Gym, Laundromat
The Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy’s facilities were basic but well-mained.
Pool-wise: there is a larger swimming pool, a smaller kiddy one, and a large open area for guests to rest / get sun taning done (though, considering Singapore’s heat, getting sunburnt seems more like it).

This is super useful for guests who stay longer / travel really light, but don’t wish to pay for typical hotel dry cleaning services.

Overall Thoughts: Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy
Our stay at the Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy was a simple but pleasant one. It was more than enough to make our five-year-old feel special, celebrate her birthday, and sufficient for the family to relax.
Staff service was professional, and everyone was polite. I’m not sure again if it’s because of the low stay-density during the time we were there, so i can’t comment if the same level of service would be given say, if the hotel was full.
Generally happy to have gotten this deal from the Amex Travel website; the stay of SGD190 total (including tax) for x2 nights was definitly worth the price.
