Lady Dior: a backstory
When I first started this blog, one of the earliest posts featured the Lady Dior Mini.
I loved it as a mini bag: it was exquisitely beautiful, made special occassions even more special, and generally brought tons of happiness.

However, I had my reservations about having too much duplication in my bag collection, and never pulled the trigger.
And then, this happened

The bag is a work of art in itself.

“Embodying the quintessence of the House’s spirit, the Lady D-Lite stands out for its architectural lines, symbolic of the excellence in savoir-faire of the Dior Ateliers. The iconic bag is reinvented for the spring-summer 2020 ready-to-wear collection in a fully embroidered version, reflecting Dior’s exclusive know-how. Its creation is the result of a unique ritual: the realization of 3-D tone-on-tone embroideries based on the Cannage motif, followed by the meticulous assembly work on a wooden form, ending with a special finish that makes the bag more hard-wearing for everyday use.” – Dior website

What fits in the Dior Lady D’lite
The interior is pretty straightforward – the inside is literally a square.
Pictures don’t do this justice – it is much larger than it looks.
x1 long wallet, x2 card holders, x1 notebook (A5 size), x1 pencil case, x1 mini water bottle, x1 hand sanitizer, x1 lipstick, x1 small eyeshadow palette.

For reference, I am about 154cm tall, or just a little over 5 feet tall.
I love the top handles – comfortable to hold, easy to grab.
For more formal or elegant settings, I recommend it as a handheld bag.
Handheld
Hanging on the crook of the arm. This is really comfortable as well.
It also looks great as a shoulder bag. The Dior Lady D’lite is actually significantly lighter than the original leather version, so it doesn’t feel heavy at all.
Shoulder Bag
Does this bag make my ass look good? Lol.
Jokes aside. I can honestly appreciate that it is so light. Perhaps that’s also why it’s called the Lady D’lite?
Do not crossbody. Lol.
I do not recommend using it as a crossbody – at least not with the original Dior Lady D’lite strap. The strap is wide and comfortable – but it is too short to functionally crossbody.
Overall Pros and Cons
Pros of the Dior Lady D’lite
- It is a classic with a twist. In the shape of the traditional Lady Dior, but decorated with the most exquisite embroidered cannage pattern.
- And the cannage is crazy beautiful. There’s something satisfying about running the fingers down and feeling up the whole 3D-ness of it.
- It is light (because the material is canvas, not leather).
- Can be used either handheld or as a shoulder bag.
- Comes in a wide variety of colours – every season there seems to be a new shade in town.
With a Hermes Twilly
- You need to baby this bag. The cannage embroidery means that the bag’s exterior is entirely fabric. Compared to leather, any stains or dirt that gets on is VERY hard to clean.
- Dirt from your hands may gradually stain the bag over time – for that, I recommend using a twilly or bag ribbon of some sort.
- Price point: at the time of purchase, although this bag is made of canvas, Dior listed it at the same price for BOTH leather and canvas versions (this may change in future with repeated price increases, but who knows).
- Price point: The bag may not hold its resale value very well. In fact, I did get this bag from a reseller – the bag was in brand new condition but costed a little over S$1k less than in-store.
Hope this helps anyone who’s thinking of getting the bag.
