Tower Club

Tower Club Singapore is one of the few members-only club typically used by top business folks and those in the corporate world.

Holders of the American Express Platinum Charge card, and the American Express Platinum Reserve card are allowed complimentary access to Tower Club. They are also allowed to bring in guests. While visitations require a pre-booking with the American Express Concierge service, I’ve never had a problem with the process – calling to request for reservations had always been easy.

Large Expansive Space by the Tower Club Entrance

Located on the 62nd to 64th floors of Republic Plaza, the place boasts panoramic views of the Marina Bay area in Singapore.

Stunning views from Tower Club

There are three main dining establishments within tower club.

  • Atlantic: Western / Continental, both set meals and a la carte available
  • Ba Xian: Chinese Fine Dining, with an amazing Dim Sum menu on Saturdays
  • Straits Bar: As the name suggets, it is a Bar – though Afternoon High Tea is available at midday

With the American Express Platinum Charge card or Platinum Reserve Card, card holders receive an SGD 100 Tower Club voucher annually (upon payment of the annual fee), to dine in at either one of these three places.

Tower Club Voucher worth SGD 100 – for dining in at Atlantic, Ba Xian, and Straits Bar

Note: Given that I possess BOTH these credit cards, I actually received TWO of these vouchers – one for each card.

While the annual fee of the Platinum Charge Card is a hefty SGD 1712, the moment card holders settle this annual fee – they DO NOT have to pay  annual fees for any other American Express Credit Card. Hence, the annual fee for my Platinum Reserve Card (SGD 535) is waived, and in addition I get to enjoy the perks of both these cards.

Atlantic Restaurant

The husband and I decided to head over to Tower Club for lunch at Atlantic.

Ever so elegant and luxurious, and completed with floor to ceiling windows, everthing in this place carries vibes of fine dining. Even in the plates and cutlery.

Table Setting

To suit the occassion, the Birkin 30 in Rose Extreme was the bag of the day.

Menu

With a two-course meal going for SGD 38 per person (choose EITHER appetizer OR dessert) and the three-course version going for SGD 48 (choose BOTH appetizer and dessert), the set lunch menu here has a pretty good deal.

Appetizers

Mains

Desserts

Do note that the menu DOES rotate quite a bit – I’ve been here a few times in the past year, and it looks like the menu is slight different every few months.

There are also vegetarian options – check with the server for details!

Bread Basket. Mmm.

We decided to go with one two-course meal (with appetizer), and one three-course meal (with both appetizer and dessert). Of course, we feasted on the bread basket while waiting. 😀

Afternoon Course Lunch

Soon, our starters arrived.

Seared Pink Tuna Loin

Served with roasted bell peppers, celery salad, marinated orange, and pickled ginger sauce, the fresh tuna blended well into the vegetables.

Love the bits of Tuna. So Fresh. So Flavourful.

Our second started was the Poached Dutch Veal Tenderloin.

Poached Dutch Veal Tenderloin

On first glance, the meat looks somewhat like chicken – after all, most of us are used to thinking of cow/beef as ‘red’ (dark) meat.

But one bite and you know you’ve got something unique. The veal was truly soft and tender. Mixed with tuna caper sauce, poached quail eggs, parmesan chips, sundried tomatoes, watercress and fennel salad, it felt like a luxurious protein-packed salad.

Not chicken breast. Haha.

We had high expectations for the mains after, and they definitely did not disappoint.

Chef Elson’s Daily Special – Barramundi

Sometimes when you feel like having a mystery dish – the Chef’s special is the way to go. The server described to us that a pan-seared barramundi will be served with vegetables – brocolli, dou miao sprouts, carrots, and shimeji mushrooms – making it a healthy midday meal.

Vegetables Galore

I decided to have the Catch of The Day (not the same as Chef’s daily special, lol). In this case, it was pan-fried halibut white fish, presented with baby cucumbers, beetroot puree, white wine and capers sauce.

Catch of the day: Halibut

The husband and I ended the meal at Tower Club by sharing a dessert.

Orange Curd Tartelette

Basically, a little orange tart, served with orange slices, vanilla ice cream, and a dark chocolate net. Not particularly outstanding, but it was the sweet ending to a meal that we needed.

Orange Tart. Oranges. Ice Cream. Dark Chocolate.

Coffee and Tea came as part of the Set Lunch Menu – and it includes iced options. The husband got a cappucino and I ordered an Iced Latte.

Overall Tower Club review

The location is definitely upscale; the kind of place for power business meetings, or if you really want to impress a new business partner. The very formal setting is truly quiet and exclusive. I can’t think of a better place for corporate lunches – there’s even meeting rooms that can be booked – do enquire with the concierge in advance however.

The staff at Tower Club were a bit of a hit and miss; some staff were well-groomed, polite, and know how to explain what’s on the menu, but there were also a couple of blur ones who mixed up our initial orders – probably due to them being new I’d reckon, though it’s hard to say if it’s due to a lack of training or attention.

Food was great, and I would come back again for sure. Word to note – that there is a 10% surcharge to dine at Tower Club – and this is ON TOP of the usual 7% GST and 10% service charge.

On the side – Tower Club has a gym that Platinum card members can book to use, and the complimentary gym membership would be useful for anyone needing a workout in the CBD area.

Note: this is an adults-only place. There are occassions or meals where kids above a certain aged may be allowed in, but those moments are few and far between. Before bringing in any child of any age, do check with the concierge if allowed for that day.
