Mikuni Voucher
In my previous post, I mentioned that, upon my most recent renewal of the American Express Platinum Charge Card, I received a stack of vouchers, and among them, there was a Mikuni Voucher worth S$50.
Technically, it is S$50 off EITHER at Mikuni or Willow Stream Spa, both of which are located at Fairmont Singapore.
Most people I know find it easier to simply dine-in, but hey, to each his or her own. This blogpost simply describes how I personally used the S$50 voucher.
Restaurant
And here we are.
Inside, the restaurant has mysterious and sophisticated vibes. Dim lighting, dark woody tones, and black furniture gives it a sombre feel – exactly the kind of place you’d go for a quiet, serious, Japanese meal.
While waiting, the server came and explained the terms and conditions of using the voucher.
Basically, according to the staff, the voucher can be used ONLY on food, and there must be a minimum food order of S$50 – one CANNOT order S$49 and use the voucher. No other Amex discounts (e.g. love dining benefits) may be used concurrently with the voucher.
Food and Drink
Dining solo, I decided to get a drink for myself. As a lover of sweet wine, I went straight for the Moscato d’Asti.

And decided to order a couple of sushi rolls.
The spread
The first roll here is the Crunchy Spicy Tuna Maki.
Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll
Filled with a mix of tuna, avocado, cucumber, tobiko, bonito flakes, and spicy sauce – this hits all the right notes. Slightly fishy with a tinge of creamy and chilli, yet refreshing with a touch of vegetables.
Generously Topped with Tempura-like flakes
The added crunch was extra joy. And surprise – the Moscato drink went EXTREMELY well with the roll – I wasn’t expecting a blend on this level, but oh wow – the combination of sweet wine and slightly sweet fish just burst forth into something new.
It felt like I discovered something new that day.
Sweet. Spicy. Crunchy. Refreshing. Yums.
The second dish was the Soft Shell Crab Roll.
Soft Shell Crab Roll
Nestled inside a bed of seaweed and rice was the cripsy soft shell crab, cucumber, avocado, tobiko, spring onion, and something like a shiso leaf.
Generous amount of Crab and Tobiko
There was something slightly herby about the hidden leaf (which I think is shiso) – it just gave a mysterious extra freshness out of nowhere, which was enjoyable.
All in all, both sushi rolls were fun and tasty. Personally, I consider this too small for a full meal, but too dense for a light snack. But food-wise, this is as far as the voucher will stretch, so just take what can be enjoyed.
Amex Mikuni Voucher Benefit
As an holder of the American Express Platinum Charge Card, in order to use the S$50 Mikuni Voucher a minimum spend of S$50 on food is required. The vouher cannot be used on drinks, and cannot be combined with other dining benefits.
In total, I received the following dining discounts:
- Spicy Tuna Maki – S$28.00
- Soft Shell Crab Maki – S$24.00
- Moscato D’Asti – S$19.oo
– Subtotal: $71.00 (Note: I had spent S$52 on food and S$19 on a drink)
– Amex Mikuni Voucher discount = minus – $50.00 = $71.00 – S$50 = 21.00
– 9% GST: $2.08
– 10% Service Charge: $2.10
– Total Bill: $25.18
