This is a review of the English Afternoon tea at the Lobby Lounge at Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel Singapore. As usual, the husband was the sole companion for this visit.
Lobby Lounge: Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel
Marriott Hotel literally sits at the busiest road intersection along the Orchard area – Orchard Road itself and Scotts road. I’ve been here multiple times, and have dined in at Crossroads Cafe on a few occassions – which is awesome as it has Love Dining benefits – I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys dining establishments in hotels.
For this specific occassion, however, the husband and I felt like midday coffee and desserts – so we decided for once, to try out the Marriott High Tea at Lobby Lounge.
Lobby Lounge
I do love the ambience in the Lobby Lounge – high ceilings, luxurious furnishings, comfortable sofas – it’s a great place for a relaxing afternoon. Though honestly, we ended up bringing our laptops here to work in the middle of the day – so I can also say that it’s a conducive and quiet workplace as well, haha!
Love the atmosphere – especially with COVID-19 work from home arrangements, many people actually choose to work in this quiet space
Entertainer App by HSBC
Note: the English Afternoon High Tea is NOT part of the American Express Love Dining programme. However, the Entertainer App by HSBC does offer a 1-for-1 on the high tea – which was perfect for the both of us.
Marriott High Tea
The Marriott High Tea is priced at SGD 38++ and comes with a standard tea and coffee selection. Alternatively, the SGD 58++ option comes with Henriot Brut Champagne.

Selection of TWG teas
We opted to go non-alcoholic and chose the standard tea/coffee option. The husband had a cappucino and I chose the French Early Grey – nothing particularly fancy, but it gave us the caffeiene fix we badly needed.
And then we were pleasantly surprised with the welcome drink.
Iced Sweet Tea in tall glasses
Refreshing, fruity, and sweet, this was definitely welcomed in Singapore’s hot and humid weather.
And the three-tiered Marriott High Tea set arrived.
Stainless steel cage with three-tiers of sweet and savoury selections
Visually, it was definitely pleasing.
Sweet selections: Matcha cupcake, Salted Caramelised Rocher, and a mini Mont Blanc
Cucumber and Dill Greek Yogurt Sandwich, Prosciutto with Basil Tomato Sandwich
Sauteed Mushroom Quiche, Puff Pastry, Raisin Scone, Sugared Doughnut
Overall review
Generally, the Marriott High Tea was alright – nothing to shout about. The savour items were rather ordinary… to the point that the items felt like something that people usually CATER for a seminar or conference.
While it wasn’t terrible, This did not feel like a “high class” Afternoon Tea. Compared to High Tea in other equally high-end hotels, such as St. Regis’ Brasserie Les Saveurs or Mandarin Oriental’s MO Bar, the standard at Lobby Lounge at Marriott is definitely much lower.
The very slight saving grace would be desserts – and even then, these would be on par with a regular Afternoon Tea sort of experience; it did not exceed expectations in any way.
