Maison Kayser review: this blog post features the outlet at Scotts Square, Singapore. Came by one day with my family (with the husband and two small kids) for a quick coffee and snack, and these were our observations.

Maison Kayser: Entertainer App by HSBC

Maison Kayser is a world-renowned contemporary artisanal bakery. It originated in Paris, but has a strong global presence – to date, it’s located in 24 countries.

Within Singapore alone, there are six locations.

At Maison Kayser, one can redeem a 1-for-1 sandwich or qualifying pastry (lower cost item will be complimentary).

Small but Impressive Cafe

On first glance, Maison Kayser appears to be a really tiny cafe with limited seating availability.

I can count the number of seating tables on one hand

Most patrons seem to adopt a grab-and-go approach; we saw many people come just to tar pau (takeaway) some bread home.

Smells heavenly – many customers come for these

I probably would too, If I lived in the area.

It’s not hard to see why – the displays are really cute

As far as Entertainer App puchases go – be sure to verify with the staff what qualifies.

At the time of my visitation (late 2022), the 1-for-1 pastries applied only to items on the bottom shelf (see picture below):

Note: Entertainer App 1-for-1 pastries applied only for bottom shelf items (at the time of visitation – please verify with staff)

And the 1-for-1 Sandwiches applies to pre-made sandwiches from the fridge section:

Cafe Time

We decided to use the Entertainer App and have some sit-down cafe time as a family.

Fruit Tarts and a Coffee

For the 1-for-1 pastries, we decided to go for fruit tarts – one in strawberry and another in mixed fruits.

These were sweet with just the right amount of sourness. Moreover, the custard and bottom pie shell had just the right texture of creaminess and crunch. A total complement to the fruits atop.

The kids loved these so much; it made them so very happy.

So worth it when it’s 1-for-1

Of course, we had to go for the sandwiches as well.

Note: these were not made fresh – but were taken from the refrigerated area.

Tomato and Cheese

The sandwich fillings were not super impressive or anything – they were nice, but okay, and ordinary in themselves.

However, the BREADS holding the ingredients together was pretty decent.

They served their purpose well as a quick grab and go, or as a small midday snack.

Overall Thoughts

Firstly, the seating area there is incredibly small – you’d have to either be really lucky to get a seat here, or come in when the store first opens for the day.

It’s one of the reasons why I haven’t dined in here until today – everytime I walk past, the seats are always fully occupied. For that, if one is thinking of buying from Maison Kaiser, takeaway purchases may be more feasible.

The desserts are not just highly instagrammable, but also really enjoyable. Though, it is possible to find desserts of a similar / slightly better standard elsewhere, for example at PAUL (at Takashimaya too, which isn’t too far from Scotts Square). In fact – this may come down to personal preference, but I do like PAUL a little more than Maison Kayser.

Nevertheless, Maison Kayser is a decent place. Prices are reasonable on their own, but really worth it with the Entertainer App.
