This La Brasserie review consists of two separate visits to this French Dining Establishment at Fullerton Bay Hotel

Note: I tend to blog extensively about the American Express Love Dining programme. At the time of dining, American Express Love Dining benefits were offered for Fullerton Bay Hotel. Unfortuantely, effective from 2 January 2022, The Fullerton Hotel Singapore and The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore will not be eligible for Love Dining privileges.

Fullerton Bay Hotel

Located in Fullerton Bay hotel, La Brasserie is a French restaurant within the hotel’s vicinity.

Fullerton Bay La Brasserie Review

Inside the Fullerton Bay Hotel

The place is endlessly classy and romantic. Think high ceilings, dim lighting (it’s super cosy in the evening), and comfortable soft chairs and sofas. Impeccably arranged, the ambience is alluringly welcoming.

Love Dining Benefits by Amex

The husband and I have visited here numerous times. Good food aside, a key reason for regularly frequenting this place – is the American Express Love Dining programme. It’s an amazing dining benefits that comes with ownership of a qualifying American Express credit card. I personally own the American Express Platinum Charge card and CANNOT recommend it enough. A whole host of lifestyle benefits aside – the Love Dining discounts alone gives up to 50% off when dining in at reputable hotels and high-end restaurants.

Menu

So, having seated down, we took a look at the menu.

While waiting, the servers happily brought us the bread basket. These are always good – I’m such a sucker for bread baskets!

For the rest of this blogpost – it will be divided into TWO visitations; one for a quick casual lunch, and one for a more formal dinner.

La Brasserie review: lunch

The husband and I managed do sneak off for a quick getaway lunch on a quiet weekday.

But a ‘quick’ lunch can still be somewhat elegant, right?

Appetizers

The husband ordered the Lobster and Avocado Cocktail.

Lobster and Avocado Cocktail

Literally a huge slab of avocado on crispy toast, it’s served with avruga caviar, cognac ice cream (YES, ICE CREAM), and micro cress. This had such a sophisticated ADULT taste to it – the cognac ice cream was otherworldly, and it gave a mild alcoholic rush to the rich rich caviar and avocado.

Not to be outdone was the Blackened Ahi Tuna Nicoise. Organic green salad is served alongside seared ahi tuna and drizzled with truffle lime vinaigrette. Simple in ingredients but oh, so wholesome.

For lunch that day, we were in a soup-and-sandwich kind of mood.

Soup and Sort-of-Sandwich mains

We shared the Champignon and Truffle soup. Essentially it’s a thich mushroom potage, served with mushroom pieces and parmesan cheese. The hint of truffle was obvious here. Truffle lovers would rejoice over this.

There are days that you just want a good simple burger and fries, and my husband had exactly that.
Fullerton Bay hotel La Brasserie Review

La Brasserie Artisanal Beef Burger

It’s a good standard burger, made with wagyu beef, aged cheese, nestled between a toasted bun, and served alongside truffle fries.

Not extraordinary, but it was satisfying. Recommend to go for the medium or medium-rare – somehow burgers always seem more juicy that way.

For me – when I saw the words ‘Lobster Roll’ on the menu, all logical thought went out the window.

The Fullerton Lobster Roll

Inside a toasted brioche bun, is a bed of butter poached half lobster. Slatered in light mayonnaise, topped with chives, and served with truffle fries, this was one sinful cholesterol-laden lunch.

Was it worth it? Hell yeah. The lobster bits were so sweet and juicy, it’s a rich rich sandwich that’s instantly comforting and joy-inducing.

You can’t put a price on happiness, right?

La Brasserie review: dinner

On a separate occassion, when we got the help of someone to look after our kids while we snuck away for a night out the husband and I came back here for dinner again.

This time, we decided to share the appetizer – wagyu beef tartare.

La Brasserie review

Wagyu Beef Tartare

The base is an agria potato roasti – crispy and light. Beef tartare marinated with free-range egg rests atop the base, and the dish is further decorated with shaved seasonal truffle, baby greens, and caviar.

We were literally speechless – the mix of truffle and beef was PERFECT. So silky and velvety soft, this started the evening on a rather high note.

Topped with shaved truffles. Wow.

The first main dish to arrive was the Te Mana Lamb Rack

Te Mana Lamb Rack

Where do I begin – the bits of edamame beans, banana shallot, smoked garlic jam and vegetables weren’t just an afterthought; they complimented the juicy lamb so well. The meat was tender but not overly chewy, and this one wasn’t too gamey (as far as lamb goes). If you love lamb, it’s definitely worth a try.

The husband felt like meat, so Steak and Fries – Steak Et Frites – it was.

Steak Et Frites

Don’t be fooled by its looks – at one point I even wondered if this was chicken breast, lol.

Beef or Chicken?

Don’t be fooled by its looks – at one point I even wondered if this was chicken breast, lol. But all temporary fears disappeared upon a cross-sectional slicing of the meat.
La Brasserie review steak and fries

Definitely Beef. Medium rare, to boot.

But, jokes aside – the steak here was really good. The meat is a wagyu beef entrecote, garnished with Cafe de Paris butter. They also give you 3 kinds of sauce – mushroom sauce, meat sauce, and a bernaise sauce – so go nuts, try them all.

Sweet endings are definitely a must. Being indecisive, we asked the server for a recommendation, and he raved about a chocolate ball – the deal was sealed.

And throw in some performance – thick, warm, chocolate sauce is drizzled over the ball.

More chocolate? Yes Please.

The chocolate seal cracks / melts open…

“I can see the light” – chocolate ball inside

Impulsively, we cracked the rest of the chocolate casing ourselves. Wow. Dehydrated raspberries, cherry compote, ocala biscuits, more chocolate soil / cake and chocolate sauce – Need I say more?

Chocolate Heaven

Dessert was definitely our favourite of the day. We had an amazing date night – it’s not easy to get time like this, considering that we’ve got two little kids.

I am so thankful that we had this little evening to ourselves, and of course, we are grateful to American Express and the Love Dining programme for the huge discounts – honestly, it’s allowed us to create such wonderful memories.

And we can’t put an exact value on that.
