On Hermes Bags

The Hermes Birkin 30 is one of my favourite bags. 

Those who know me can attest to my love for Hermes Bags; currently my collection includes the Constance 18 in Rose Confetti, Picotin 22 in Gold, Bolide 27 in Black, Garden Party 36 in Bougainvillea – and my other favourite – the Kelly 28 in Gold.

I’ve previously written on how I manage to snag this Holy Grail bag.

The Hermes Birkin 30 is extra special simply because (i) I got it when pregnant with my second child, so it was really a push gift for myself, and (ii) it was the first Holy Grail Hermes bag (by Holy Grail, I mean Birkin / Kelly / Constance) I ever received.

Therefore, the Hermes Birkin 30 is my go-to bag for special occasions.

Recently, the husband and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary with a very special lunch at Jaan by Kirk Westaway, at the top floor of Swissotel the Stamford.

The Birkin 30 came along, and it made the occasion a little more special.

Wait – you mean a BAG can change the way you feel about an event? – asked a friend.

Well, Don’t you feel good when you wear a beautiful dress? – I said – Of course a beautiful bag can uplift the mood. Plus, this bag was a gift to myself for the birth of my second child. Loads of good memories there!

Of course, I don’t just use the bag for special occasions – it’s also used for casual outings and dinners.

But WHEN there is something special or fancy, the Hermes Birkin is my bag of choice.

For the extra fancy feels, in getting ready for the 13th wedding anniversary lunch outing, I dressed up the top handles in twillies or bag scarves.

The front has a Plumetis twilly. I love the plumetis twilly and its multicoloured layout – the bits of reddish pink complement the bag nicely. 

For the back, I put a twilly in a contrasting dark blue colour. Hermes does colours so well so even when the colours do stand out, it’s not loud or gaudy.

The restaurant was beautiful, and the day a little sunny. We had a full view of the Marina Bay Sands and Singapore Flyer area.

You know that service is impeccable when a mini chair/table/stand/something is offered separately for your bag. 

For the date, I wore a Karen Millen dress in giraffe print. Black and white, but with a twist.

Usually I take this bag as a handheld one, but it can also be easily carried on the crook of the arm.

Personally I don’t find it heavy, though some have said that the Birkin is a heavy bag. Perhaps it’s because my Hermes Birkin is made of Epsom leather, and that is more lightweight compared to Togo or Clemence leather.

All in all, I was so happy to bring this bag out for this special day. We had an amazing lunch for our 13th wedding anniversary – it was literally the BEST MEAL we had in our whole lives. Most of all, I am so grateful for my husband –  13 years and 2 kids later, we are still going strong, and I am so incredibly lucky to have this wonderful man in my life.
