Brozeit: Entertainer App by HSBC
Brozeit is a German bier bar and restaurant known for their fladen, sausages, pork knuckles, schnitzels and other German items.
That day, our family of five members (husband, mother-in-law, two children, and myself) made our way to Brozeit to try their German fare.
Brozeit Bier Bar and Restaurant
Brozeit has four locations within Singapore, however, at the time of writing, only the Katong and Westgate outlets participate in the Entertainer App by HSBC.
With the Entertainer App, at Brozeit, diners can redeem a 1-for-1 Fladen, Sausage, Pork Knuckle, Schnitzel or Classic item. Items can be mixed and matched and the item of lower cost will be complimentary.
I’ve written about the Entertainer App before, check out the post here for details:
German Menu at Brozeit
Word of advice: Be mentally prepared to see a LOT of meat.
Sausages
As far as German classics go, the menu is meat-intensive, on the saltier side, and the cooking methods tend to be mostly roast, bake, pan-fry, or deep-fry (in other words, rarely steamed or boiled).
Schnitzels (thin slices of meat, pounded, breaded and deep fried)
Even the appetizers are geared towards canivores:
Appetizers
Not that we are complaining; the items do look mouth-watering on the menu at least.
German classics
And of course, the very popular pork knuckle.

Using the the Entertainer App, the entire family decided to order four items (amounting to using the 1-for-1 deal twice).
For a start, we ordered a Fladen mit Schweinshaxn (Pork Knuckle Fladen) to share. Fladen literally translats to ‘flat cake’ but the dish is more like a flatbread with toppings, and our server even described it as “something like a pizza”.
Fladen mit Schweinshaxn (Pork Knuckle Fladen)
This was RICH. With every bite, the fats from the pork knuckle oozed out in juicy goodness. The rocket leaves and bread base contrasted against the greasiness. Wonderful and rich in flavour.
If you want to try pork knuckle, but don’t want to order an entire knuckle itself, this would be a great alternative.

We ordered one fish item, for variety’s sake, and decided on the Matjes Hering (Cured Herring, Sweet and Sour).
Matjes Hering (Cured Herring, Sweet and Sour)
The fish pieces were sour, but not overpowering. Coated in something like a creamy marinade with a touch of dill and lemon. All in all, it was awesome with the side of savory and salty potatoes.
The onions added some sharpness to the dish, but our family was divided and some felt that the onions served only a decorative purpose. Draw your own conclusions.
Probably the ‘healthiest’ thing we ate that day
For the kids, we went for he most idiot-proof item on the menu: sausages.
Geräucherte Huhnerkäsewurstchen (Smoked Chicken Cheese Sausages)
Or rather, Geräucherte Huhnerkäsewurstchen. Verbally challenging name aside, the dish is more commonly known as Smoked Chicken Cheese Sausages. These sausages oozed cheese out and are VERY salty. Of course – being cheesy and salty – they were a hit with the kids.
The adults tended to gravitate towards the sauerkratu and mashed potatoes.
served with sauerkraut and mashed potato
My personal favourite that day was actually the Riesen Schweinsschnitzel (Giant Breaded Pork Schnitzel).
Riesen Schweinsschnitzel (Giant Breaded Pork Schnitzel)
Here, thinly sliced pork is pounded, breaded, and deep fried to a thin crispy perfection. What’s there not to love?
The serving is huge – which was perfect when you are sharing multiple dishes with a family. I highly recommend this to share or order if you’ve got a large appetite.
Overall Thoughts
We didn’t order any alcohol that day, but the server mentioned that the food is meant to complement beer. This makes sense – most of the menu is on the heavier side, with oily meats and salty carbohydrates.
As such, while my family really did enjoy the food and found the items flavourful, tasty, and well-prepared, I personally really needed the MOOD to enjoy something like that.
Nevertheless, dining experience was overall positive. The servers were polite and efficient, and food arrived fairly quicly (and if something would take some time to prepare, we were duly informed).
The best part – using the Entertainer App by HSBC made it even more worthwhile.
