Atlantic Review

A year ago, I wrote my first Atlantic review.

One year later, the menu is slightly changed up (I supposed the menus do rotate the food items over time, ah well), but it’s just as enjoyable.

This, is my second review of Atlantic.

Near the Entrance of Tower Club Singapore

I wished my living room looked like that

That day, I lunched with a friend.

And brought this baby along.

There is something whimsical about meeting up with a close friend, in a beautiful place, and just catching up and enjoying the views.

Life should be like this sometimes.

Tower Club

Atlantic is located within Tower Club Singapore. This members-only club is smack in the middle of the Central Business District, at Republic Plaza.

American Express Platinum Charge card and American Express Platinum Reserve card holders have complimentary access to Tower Club. While visitations require a pre-booking with the American Express Concierge service, I’ve never had a problem with the process – calling to request for reservations was always smooth and easy.

Perched atop the 62nd to 64th floors of Republic Plaza, this place really boasts some stunning views of the Central Business District and Marina Bay area.

On a beautiful day

There are three main dining establishments within tower club.

  • Atlantic: Western / Continental, both set meals and a la carte available
  • Ba Xian: Chinese Fine Dining, with an amazing Dim Sum menu on Saturdays
  • Straits Bar: As the name suggets, it is a Bar – though Afternoon High Tea is available at midday

American Express S$100 Voucher

With the American Express Platinum Charge card or Platinum Reserve Card, card holders receive an S$100 Tower Club voucher annually (upon payment of the card’s annual fee). The voucher can be used for dining in at either one of these three places.

Tower Club Voucher worth SGD 100 – for dining in at Atlantic, Ba Xian, and Straits Bar

Bonus: As I possess BOTH cards, American Express sends me TWO of these vouchers – one under each card. This gives me a total of S$200 in vouchers (2 x S$100).

Yes, the annual fee for the Platinum Charge Card (SGD 1712) is no joke. However, Platinum Charge card holders, even if they hold multiple Amex cards – pay ONLY the annual fee of the Platinum Charge Card.

In other words, they DO NOT have to pay  annual fees for any other American Express Credit Card. As such, the annual fee for my Platinum Reserve Card (SGD 535) is waived, and in addition I get to enjoy the perks of both these cards.

Atlantic Menu

The most popular choices here are the set meals.

The menu does rotate every now and then. At the time of dining, this was the menu that was presented to us.

Atlantic Review: Menu

There is also an á la carte menu, for those who do not prefer set meal items.

While waiting, a lovely bread basket was brought out. This was quite ordinary, but the bread was warm and toasty.

Atlantic review: three-course meal

Between my friend and I, we decided to combine ONE  three-course set meal and a few a la carte items to share.

The set meal came with an appetizer, a main, and a dessert.

Sautéed Blue Mussels

Our choice of appetiser, the Sauteéd Blue Mussels, was served with fresh herbs, white wine sauce, onions and garlic. This was so flavourful – the wine and garlic flavours really came through.

Roasted U.S. Duck Supreme

Our choice of main item – the Roasted U.S. Duck Supreme, came decorated with baked cauliflower, haricot beans, mandarin orange pieces and balsamic sauce.

Appetizing from every angle

The savoury bits of duck meat may be oily to some, but in Atlantic’s version, mandarin oranges lifted the flavour and added a hint of lightness to it.

Pictures don’t do it justice; it tastes better than it looks here

The duck’s flavour was enhanced and strenghtened with Balsamic endnotes, and the duck itself was soft and tender, easy to cut and not chewy.

Raspberry Lychee Mousse

Ending the set meal was dessert. Pretty in pink, the Raspberry Lychee Mousse came with chocolate crumbs and raspberry sorbet. I don’t know what was better – the cake’s soft mousse, the sweet, sweet sorbet, and crunchy chocolate bits – but the textures came together and made it an absolute delight for the senses.

Á la carte menu

Though the friend and I shared the three-course menu, it wasn’t exactly sufficient and we topped up the meal with a few add-ons.

Such as the Honey Lemon Fizz and Crispy Truffle Fries

The fries were addictive – served hot with sprinkles of parmesan cheese. I mildly suspect that these have been slightly battered (kind of like those at Long John’s Silver). Definitely upped the Crispy factor.

(Very) Crispy Truffle Fries

We also added on this unexpectedly experimental Tiramisu.

Tiramisu

So the menu described the Tiramisu in a really typical manner: coffee jelly and mascarporne cheese. In my mind I was thinking of a LAYERED sort of cake figure. Little did we expect that it’d be served in a round glass.

This was unique however – mix it up, and you get a beige-brown mix with the scent of coffee.

This was the ONLY thing that we weren’t too particularly fond of. The mascarpone cheese became too watery and after a while everything felt kind of soggy. Unless you love a wet, shapeless, and easily-melting Tiramisu, stay far far away from this. Lol.

Overall thoughts

Generally, soggy Tiramisu aside, this Atlantic review is a positive one. Everything else was presented beautifully and prepared to high standards.

It’s an impressive place to bring friends and family for sure, and the beautiful views make it even more welcoming.

Important surcharge notice about Tower Club: there is a 10% member surcharge slapped on the bill – and this is ON TOP of the usual 7% GST and 10% service charge typical of most restaurants.

Important Note: Tower Club is USUALLY an adults-only place. On Weekday lunches and dinners, my understanding is that only adults are allowed in. The Saturday Dim Sum brunch at Ba Xian is an EXCEPTION whereby kids are actually allowed come. Before bringing in any child of any age, do check with the staff if kids are allowed in for that day.
